ART IN THE PARK
Elmhurst is a sophisticated art conscious
community that has developed a rich cultural heritage
throughout its 165-year history. Residents who are highly
educated and affluent patrons have many opportunities to
explore the arts. Elmhurst Art Museum, EAM, names Best
Suburban Art Museum by Chicago Magazine, provides the people
of Elmhurst and surrounding communities with a center for the
visual arts where art can be viewed, studied, created and
appreciated. The Museum resides in an architecturally
significant facility, the McCormick House, designed by Ludwig
Mies van der Rohe (considered “The father of modern
architecture”). The building is the only one of three such
homes in the United States that is open to the public. Each
Spring, the Elmhurst Art Museum sponsors Art in the Park, a
weekend festival featuring over 100 artists in Wilder Park.
Wilder Park is the home of the Elmhurst’s award winning Art
Museum.
Elmhurst College, a liberal arts, private
institution, serving over 2,700 full-and part-time students
has a rich creative life, offering a variety of majors in art.
The college’s library collection of art is world renowned.
Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art,
celebrating its 40th anniversary, is the only one of its kind
in the U.S. dedicated entirely to lapidary arts.
Elmhurst Park District manages 29
neighborhood parks including Wilder Park with its formal
gardens and conservatory that was named by Chicago Magazine as
the “best park” in suburban Chicago.
